Key Features of the Bolt-in Roll Cage Kit:
- Quick Installation:
- These kits offer a convenient way to install a roll cage in a car, especially compared to weld-in kits.
- Installation is simplified as it mostly requires bolting, with welding needed only for the footplates.
- Strength and Lightness:
- Using our FIA Certified Lap-Joints: These lap joints are a key feature, offering stronger and lighter performance compared to traditional fixings. Their design also makes them nearly invisible once the cage is painted.
- Footplate Design:
- Traditional footplate boxes are not used due to their unacceptability in international events, replaced with underfloor doubler plates, which are more robust and secure.
- OEM Mounting Points:
- Some of our bolt-in designs utilise OEM mounting points in the body shell. This method is not suitable for MSUK or FIA-sanctioned events — please contact the technical sales team for further details.
- Fixing Points:
- Depending on the car’s category and model, there are up to 14 fixing points.
- High-Quality Fasteners:
- The kit uses high tensile 12.9 grade fixings, which are strong, durable, and included with the kit.
- Coating Options:
- The kit can be supplied either with a powder-coated finish for extra durability and aesthetics, or in plain steel, which can be customized by the installer.

xThe Aston Martin DB4 is an icon of style and performance. To ensure your DB4 meets the modern safety standards required for MSUK historic racing, rallies, and sprints, we offer a bespoke Bolt-In CDS roll cage. This cage is designed to provide a robust safety cell without the permanent modifications required by a weld-in system, preserving the heritage and value of your vehicle.
This roll cage is offered as a Fitted Only service at our professional UK workshop.
Manufactured from high-quality 510 MPa tensile strength carbon steel. CDS offers the perfect balance of impact protection and period-correct aesthetics for a 1950s/60s classic. Fully engineered to meet the technical requirements for Motorsport UK historic competition and safety regulations.
Provided in a bare metal finish as standard for a classic race-ready look. Optional Powder Coating is available in a range of colors to match or contrast your interior (additional cost applies).
Roll Cage Certification
xA roll cage design must comply with the MSA/FIA technical regulations published in the MS UK Blue book. It is the competitor’s responsibility to ensure his/her roll cage complies with the technical regulations appropriate to the event they are competing in.
To compete in any race or rally your roll cage will need to comply with either MSA or FIA regulations. (Effectively, the MSA is governed by the FIA so if a roll cage design complies with FIA regs, then it is also eligible for MSA events). There are some instances where the FIA allows certain design features where the MSA do not (and vice versa).
The certification process generally allows for a lighter roll cage because it is a bespoke design where the diameter and thickness of each tube is optimised to achieve the overall strength required by the FIA/MSA rules.
In order to compete in MSA/FIA events every vehicle, which has a certificated design of roll cage, should have a copy of a valid certificate to present at scrutineering. Custom Cages has certified the majority of popular roll cages. All other roll cages comply with MSA/FIA regulations and receive a Letter of Conformity for competitors to present to scrutineers.
To obtain a certificate for a self-fit roll cage, the installer must complete a Custom Cages weld test.
Custom Cages’ roll cage kits include a weld test sample. Once completed these are returned to the company for load testing. They are subjected to a physical test to assess the actual yield strength of the weld. This ensures that the self-fit roll cages achieve the highest standards of integrity.
Additional samples may be requested.
Certificates will only be issued on completion of a successful test.

- Buildmaster included — every Roll Cage part has a unique sticker ID to help locate the correct part; this is used during checking and packing and is signed off twice
- Important documents – declaration forms and fitting guides included
- Unique ID plaque – do not lose this; the ID plaques are unique to each individual cage kit and must be welded to the cage during installation
- Installed images are available on request
