ROLL CAGE CERTIFICATION

To participate in sanctioned motorsport, a vehicle's rollover protection system must comply with the technical regulations established by your local ASN or the FIA.

Governing Bodies

In motorsport, the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) is the global governing body that manages world championships such as Formula One & WRC. It delegates its sporting authority in each country to a local ASN (Autorité Sportive Nationale or National Sporting Authority). The relationship between the FIA and ASNs forms a strict operational hierarchy: The FIA: Sets the International Sporting Code (ISC), safety standards, and global racing licenses.

Your local ASN acts as the sole national governing body recognized by the FIA. ASNs adapt FIA rules for local and national championships, issue racing licenses for competitors within their country, and train local officials and marshals

The Certification Process

Custom Cages prides itself on designing and manufacturing the highest quality roll cages for a wide variety of applications. To maintain this standard and ensure customers receive the correct paperwork a mandatory 3-step system is used…

All roll cage designs must adhere to the specifications outlined in the competitor's Local ASN or FIA Technical Regulations. FIA Certificated designs are globally recognised and accepted in sanctioned events. It remains the competitor’s primary responsibility to ensure their safety cell complies with the specific regulations applicable to their chosen discipline. Along with global acceptance there are a number of significant benefits to using an FIA Certificated Roll Cage above a regional minima design. installing a Certificated Design can offer significant weight reduction in the design in excess of 30kg in models (each model and weight saving will vary). During the optimisation of the design, development and certification stage to a Roll Cage the design is independently FEA tested for structural integrity. This ensures an optimum fit, and weight saving without compromising on safety.

Obtaining Certification

Step 1: Weld Test Sample & Declaration Form

Upon delivery of your roll cage kit, locate the Weld Test Kit containing three small tube pieces and a declaration form. DO NOT DISCARD THIS KIT.

The person installing the roll cage must weld the test pieces together exactly as shown in the provided diagram below…

Along with the weld test sample the installer must also complete and sign the Declaration form included in your information pack. This must be returned to Custom Cages ensuring your Roll Cage Kit Number is clearly marked on the sample and packaging to ensure it is correctly allocated to your build.

Send the completed weld sample and form to:

Custom Cages Ltd
FAO Certification – WTS
Units 1-2 South March
Long March Industrial Estate Daventry
NN11 4PH

The test piece will be logged, inspected, and load tested. Once approved, the weld sample is valid for a twelve-month period and can be referenced against any roll cage that the welder has installed in that period.

Most fabricators will tack the Roll Cage in during step 1 in preparation or step 2 of the process.

Step 2: Fitment Approval & Videos

As part of the approval process, Custom Cages requires two separate videos for review by a Director or Senior Design Engineer. This is required to ensure the Roll Cage being installed matches the design and Certificate. (If the installed Roll Cage is not the same as the certificate diagram/images an event scrutineer can stop the vehicle entering until it is rectified).

Video 1: Tack-In
Once your installer is authorised, the cage may be tack-welded into position within the chassis.

Tack the Roll Cage into position within the chassis. (DO NOT FULLY WELD)

Submit your video to certification@customcages.co.uk
For larger files please send via a data transfer service such as WeTransfer.

This allows us to verify that all tubes and gussets are correctly positioned as per the design. Ensure the Custom Cages ID Tag and Kit Number are clearly visible in the footage along with the vehicle chassis number
Final welding must not commence until Video 1 has been formally approved.

Video 2:
Fully Welded
Following fitment approval form video 1 along with your passed weld test sample, you may proceed to fully weld the Roll Cage in.

The roll cage must be fully welded ensuring full 360° welds on all tubes. Submit a second continuous video of the completed installation BEFORE PAINT for final sign-off.

The K-number on the identification tag must be clearly visible. Videos should be sent to certification@customcages.co.uk. For larger files, please use a data transfer service such as WeTransfer.

Step 3: Approval & Issue of Paperwork
Once all steps are completed and approved, the relevant paperwork will be issued based on the specification of the roll cage purchased. Certificates are issued exclusively upon the successful completion of the weld test and final installation approval.
